USC Researchers Highlight Disparities in Cancer Rates Among
Racial and Ethnic Groups in California
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (AScribe Newswire) -- Among Californians,
black men face the highest risk of being diagnosed with cancer, and
their rates are almost three times as high as those among South Asian
groups, according to statistics from the California Cancer Registry
and researchers at the Los Angeles Cancer Surveillance Program at
USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center....ates of certain cancers
(such as liver and stomach cancer) are much higher among Koreans and
Chinese than among blacks and other groups.
"Cancer Incidence and Mortality in California: Trends by Race and
Ethnicity 1988-2001,"
"Cancer Rates: Bad News for Asian Americans" Asian Week July 2, 1998
p. 13 Raises the alarm about "increasing" cancer rates, and better
statistics by comparing Asian groups against each other. But it does
not note that some groups such as the Chinese and Japanese have much
lower rates of cancer death than whites, a similar tactic used in the
AIDS campaign to walk around very low overall rates for all Asians.
Another example of sweeping the good under the rug to paint a picture
of gloom no matter how much better than whites statistics are.
"High Rate of Cancer among Minnesotans" AsianWeek June 12, 2003 p. 8
(AP) U Minnesota report said Hmong have higher rates of cancer of jnose,
stomach, cervical and liver cancer. From 88 to 99, 8x rates of stomach
and liver cancer as gen pop. Lower rates of breast and prostate cancer.
13 cases of nasopharyngeal cancer of the back of the nose and upper
throat is 40X gen pop. Hepatitis causes liver cancer, human papilloma virus
causes cervical. Study in Jun 15 journal Cancer. Based on Hmong surnames in
