The 1990 census shows Italian ancestry is 5.9 percent of the population. 1.5 percent of Ivy League students have Italian surnames, so I think my 2 percent estimate is appropriate. At the graduate level, Jews are 28 percent. For some reason, the proportion of Asians is almost always lower at the graduate level. It may be more appropriate to include elite schools that are not in the Ivy League, such as MIT, Duke, Chicago, Northwestern, and Stanford. Asians are about 25 percent at Chicago and MIT, higher than at any Ivy League school. If you would like me to do this research (it's a breeze and I'm a real keener), let me know. Matt
