Check the website, www.alt-sfa.com, especially the Research section and the discussion boards. You might pose your query about the materials and presentations there. The glowing reports on the success of the program from its developers and marketers do not seem to be backed up by *independent* research, and the schools are compared *only* to control groups in low-performing schools, NOT to national norms. The materials used are of poor quality and shoddily produced. There are many unanswered questions about the value obtained versus the money spent. Since all the "research" is self-reported, a la Reading Recovery, it is difficult to get a handle on how effective the program actually is, IF it is, and where the money is actually going. It's puzzling (to me, at least) that this program has generated such a following, when others with a much better research base, and demonstrated long-term effectiveness, have not.
