America's Choice™ School Design (formerly known as the National Alliance for Restructuring Education) is one of the proven designs named in the Federal legislation." end [The Way it Works: The non-profit NCEE forms a "public/private partnership" with the DOE, statutory changes are urged in order to "mandate" the NCEE design, our kids are used to develop NCEE products which are then advertised by the NCEE as meeting statutory requirements and sold by the NCEE."] [Oh ya, by the way, Hillary Clinton was a NCEE board member. Also, our former commissioner of education Richard Mills was a board member during his Vermont tenure and during the time that the state of Vermont formed its partnership with the NCEE.] [Vermont children were used without parental consent in the development of the NCEE "portfolio product" which they now offer for sale! Do our children get any royalties??] [A teacher at our little K-6 school in Norwich, Vermont was one of 3 in the nation to sit on the "governing board" of the NCEE spin-off known as the New Standards Project. She is quoted in an April 1st, 1992 Education Week article expounding on the wonders of the "portfolio" as an "instructional" and "assessment tool." We pioneered the math. What they haven't told you is that the computation scores on our California Achievement Tests plummented during the time we were involved in this so-called "project" with no gains in the area of "concepts and applications." Our involvement began in 1990 and our children are tested in the fall of each year. Here are the math computation percentile score summaries for 6th grade on the CAT: 1989: 67%; 1990: 72%; 1991: 41%; 1992: 50%; 1993: 49%; 1994: 44%; 1995: 49%; 1996: 49% Here is the percent of kids scoring in the lowest quartile: 1989: 9%; 1990: **; 1991: 25%; 1992: 24%; 1993: 31%; 1994: 27%; 1995: 28%; 1996: 28% Finally, here's the difference between the scores on the "Total Battery" and the "math computation" scores: 1989: -10%; 1990: -13%; 1991: -34%; 1992: -32%; 1993: -32%; 1994: -32%; 1995: -29%; 1996: -30%] http://www.ncee.org/OurProducts/portfolio.html National Center Products - New Standards Portfolio System For information on how to order our products visit the Ordering National Center Products page. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- The New Standards Portfolio System The New Standards portfolio system provides evidence of achievement of the performance standards that depend on extended pieces of work (especially those that show revision) and accumulation of evidence over time. Lake Washington has just adopted a similar math system Julie Goldsmith, be sure to forward the Vermont test score results to ALL concerned in school board and your commmittees. They should know that Lake Washington can expect a similar fall in math performance once Investigations is adopted as the sole textbook. It's not too late to prevent the coming train wreck.
