Though the following is specific to California, each state should be taking
notes on this one.  Would keeping your children home from public school to
avoid taking certain assessments, or homeschooling, or using teaching methods
unapproved by the state, or failure to provide the home and/or social
environment sought under Goals 2000 legislation qualify as "educational
neglect" in the near future??? - Rebecca

Quick Update - AB 804 (Keely) - adding "educational neglect" to the
definition of child abuse - passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee
yesterday  (8 - 5).  This very dangerous bill will be heard in Assembly
Human Services Committee next.  I am in the process of writing an updated
alert - I expect to get it out tomorrow.
