That is saying something when you consider that two Montgomery County high schools are ranked in the nation's top ten. Other than being Black, my people were very much like their neighbors and the majority population in the schools. Many were and are Jewish, some were Asian and the majority were high rollers, many of whom had migrated to the D.C. area from elsewhere. Most of the Asian students had been born in the United States but frequently, their parents were not. What is frequently overlooked is that there is also a native born population of predominently whites and blacks in Montgomery country who have been there for generations, and who are not "high rollers". Neither are the Hispanics. What is significant is that the reported average SAT for blacks (958) and Hispanics (899) approaches or begins to approach the national average (1054). That means that either the parents, the social institutions, the schools or all three are doing something significant. It is that"something" which should be investigated and replicated elsewhere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Track your stocks and funds in a StockMaster portfolio.
