Author: CptMatt Date: 1999/01/13 Forum: rec.models.scale sponsored by: more headers author posting history Hi. I just recently bought a mint condition Revell Boeing 2707 SST kit on eBay. As I expected from a 32 year old model, the generic Boeing test plane decals were terribly yellowed and somewhat cracked. So, I was thinking of doing the plan in Pan-Am markings of the late 60s/early 70s. My question is, is there someplace (hobby shop, mail order, online) that handles a good selection of aftermarket airline decals? I have tried about every hobby shop within a reasonable drive of the far northside of Chicago but none seem to have much of a selection. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks y'all Rob Mc. Although I can't remember the name of the company, the yard is easily visble on the west side of S.R. 3 going north into Kennedy Space Center. It's been disassembled into several pieces, and they're all placed next to the yard fence next to the road. No obvious corrision can be seen, but the old red white and blue paint job has faded and been discolored by mold or dirt. Also in the yard are the remains of the Titan I that used to be in front of Patrick AFB (it fell over during a storm a year? ago), an Atlas ICBM on a trailer, and old NASA trucks, fuel tankers, and launch cameras. There was a picture of it in its current state in Aviation Week last year in a story about the Tu-144 used by NASA. In case anyone's interested, there's another scrapyard filled with space scrap on US 1 north somewhere between Cocoa, FL and Titusville, FL. Jeff Clark Does anyone know of a place on the I-Net where I can find info on the Boeing 2707 or Lockheed L-2000? In 1969 Revell released the Boeing SST PanAm Supersonic Clipper kit. It featured TWO complete kits and a stand. One was in supersonic configuration with the wings tucked in and nose straight while the other subsonic configuration had the crooked nose and the out-spread wings.Scale was not given but I think it works out to be about 1:200 with each SST about 18" long. It made a pretty impressive display even though they were not greatly detailed. Alot of flash on this kit, the landing gear in particular. The decals however seemed very nice. The original release featured the aircraft in the Boeing paint scheme of mustard yellow and brown similar to what the Dash 80 and other company airplanes wore. In addition to the Revell kit; Monogram, Lindberg, and Entex also produced Boeing SST models. The Monogram kit was small scale (about 1/400) and sold for $1.30 back in 1969 (I believe). It had movable variable geometry wings, canards and no landing gear (display stand only). The markings were for United Airlines. This kit was last available (reboxed in 1973) in the mid-70's. Lindberg produced a series of even smaller scale SST kits which included the Concorde, TU-144 (double engine nacelle), and the Boeing SST in its final delta winged configuration. These kits were about 1/600 scale and sold for about $0.70. They were produced around 1972 and were available for only a few years. Entex produced the smallest scale Boeing SSTs (fixed delta-wing) in the mid-70s. The model itself was about 4 inches long and included Pan Am parkings. The model was identified on the box as the Boeing 2707. I believe this kit sold for less than $1.00. BTW: The Revell kit was issued (in the USA) twice. The first issue included markings for a yellow and white Boeing prototype and a later issue (1969) included Pan Am markings. Both kits were reissued in the late 1970's by Lodela (Revell Mexico). The Revell kit is well worth having if you can find one. It is by far the most impressive Boeing SST kit with a length of 18 inches. Just for the record, the 2707 got much farther than the drawing boards; the first plane was over half built when the program was cancelled. -- Dan'l danielmi@expert.cc.purdue.edu (-o-) <*> Job 30:29 (-o-) Pins by Elana: http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~danielmi/pin.html The RASSM Newbie FAQ: http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~danielmi/newbie_faq.html Purdue Sci-Fi Club: http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~voyager Message 7 of 7 for search return to search results help Re: Boeing SST Model? Yes, there was. Revell made one which was basically two aircraft kits in one. One airplane showed the SST in flight -- nose in upright position, wings swept back, gear up. The other plane was of the SST in the landing configuration -- nose and gear down and wings forward. The two models were didplayed together. I was a teenager at the time. My idea of modeling then was glue the stuff together and slap the decals on. Painting? Sanding? Filling seams? What's all that?
