A previous study showed that over two-thirds of anal sex reported by half of attendees was unprotected. Percentage reporting no anal sex fell from 40% in 188-89 to 25% in 96097, while condom protected anal sex from 20% to 30%, substituting condom sex for no anal sex (less safe), about the same unprotected, about 40% Acknowledging the above limitations, it is clear from our data that the proportions of MSM reporting unprotected anal sex within gthe previous 6 months continues at high levels ~40%. Sex with condom is up from 20% to 30%, but by same reduction in those having no anal sex. the number of partners reported with whom they have engaged in risk has fallen substantially from an average of nearly 11 to fewer than 7. Risk reduction has been mostly reducing number of partners.
