e:\doc\web\99\02\asaid.txtIf Asians want to have even less AIDs, they need to make rate of male to male sex and IV drug use ZERO, not just 1/4 the rate of whites. What do you say to that? Just how close to zero does China have to be to meet your standard of zero? There is no estimate in China that is even as low as the non-gay US population AIDS rate. If more people had the guts to be asking questions like I did, then the majority of cases would _not_ be among gays and blacks because somebody would suggest (horrors) that those groups reduce their levels of risky sex and drug use to levels as low as Asian Americans. Of course, you obviously want gays and blacks to have the "right" to continue practice risky behaviors as you find the alternative to be morally offensive. It doesn't offend me, but don't blame me for high AIDS rates in other communties when the Asian community relatively speaking doesn't seem to have many cases at all. It would make you happy if the Asian community "assimilated" to advanced western customs such as anal sex and IV drug use instead of such morally backward Asian traditions such as doing what your parents told you to do. It sure as hell isn't 1.0. You're profoundlly confused about the way an epidemic works. The sad part is, you're playing with the numbers merely to justify a bigotry that states Asian Americans are rarely gay. That's just pathetic. >As for Asia, published rates for South and Southeast Asia are higher than >for San Francisco, if so many people have AIDS, one wonders where are >all the corresponding deaths? According to official statistics--but the Chinese government is beginning to recognize a serious problem. The bigger impact of the epidemic so far has been in Southeast Asia. The epidemic is moving north, but one can only hope that condoms and safer sex practices will limit further spread. >Like I said at the bottom of the message, the only Asian Americans who >are getting AIDS are gays and drug users, fortunately, Asians are even >less likely to be drug users relative to the general population than they >are to be gay. More disgusting cultural bigotry. So how long have you been having fantasies of having sex with men, Arthur? You know, statistically, the "straight" guys that get the biggest anxiety attacks over gay men also get the biggest boners, compared to their straight but indifferent counterparts, when watching gay porn. >Of course, we don't want other Americans to emulate those stuck >up Asians, do we? > >Only .57 million, a tiny proportion of AIDS are in East Asia, which >has 1/4 of the world population. Instead, you're getting in a snit because, like some African Americans who were blind and dumb enough to say homosexuality was a "white man's disease" you're too bigoted and conflicted to address the REAL problems. And apparently too heartless as well. I wish you luck. Maybe you should get back to the fundamentals of Buddhist teaching: compassion. George M. Carter
