BRACEY SAYS READING RECOVERY DOES BOTH PHONICS AND LITERATURE \doc\web\99\01\readrec.txt Send reply to: "Gerald W. Bracey" I served on the advisory board of a MacArthur-funded study of Reading Recovery. Reading recovery emphasizes both phonics and literature. More importantly, RR assesses each child indivually to decide what to do next. It is not a perfect program but it does not de-emphasize phonics. During the course of the research, though, some of the researchers told me they were afraid to use the word "phonics" (the f-word) at IRA meetings for fear of danger to their persons. I did a review of the literature on RR which is dated now but still propably cogent as it is critical, not embracing. I'll provide copies for $20 including first class postage.
