I think it is the same in the state of PA. My Newark, NJ union leader (AFT), Carol Graves, went to prison for months for her failure to call off the strike in the seventies. Our pay scale was low and the working conditions deplorable in Newark. I think the teachers now make a decent salary, but the working conditions are still horrible. I could write a book about my experiences in the inner city. I loved it and would go back tomorrow. It was wonderful to watch my students grow and learn. Gloria
