Tolfa" (by way of Fred Battey ) Subject: HELP ACTION: ETV Programming Loop: Last night on Nebraska Public Television was a live interview show featuring Norfolk (NE) STW coordinator, a former STW student, and a representative of business from Omaha. As you might expect, the program was VERY (sickeningly) STW friendly. Callers' questions were read to the panel. Among the disclosures was a statement from STW coordinator Jane Volk that STW "... requires less education ..." and that its intent was for children to "... be successful citizens and workers ..." She clearly stated that STW targets all students, that mentoring may take 1 day/week for the entire year or more, that STW could be used to start your own business, that federal funding is in question, that life-long learning is essentially mandatory, and that there are "... many fine kindergarten curricula ..." that emphasize workplace skills employers want. Again, I'm the newbee here, so ... I've already emailed Nebraska Public Broadcasting (net@unlinfo.unl.edu) and challenged their one-sided coverage of this issue and told they need identify the truths and do a followup from the opposition. Just a thought, but hearing from others might influence them ... I have (most) of the broadcast on tape and could dub a few copies and mail them out but can't make 200 copies, obviously. If not to Nebraska Public Television, perhaps you should make a similar request to your local public broadcast station, since STW was just on national public television last week. If you think you can help me in Nebraska, please send an email to net@unlinfo.unl.edu and, thanks. If I can help you, I will. Mike Tolfa
