It seems that there is a program known as best practices from previous posts? I have just come across a book titled "Best Practices" by Steven Zemelman, Harvey Daniels and Arthur Hyde, and published by Heinemann. I have found that there are a number of people in our school district referring to this book as their bible in education. I have just obtained a copy of this book, it spells out and defines the full so called reform movement, including a small section on how to sell it to parents. This books is so far off the wall that it isn't funny. There basic premise is psycholinguiestics; Children can learn to read, write, and compute the same way they learn to talk, they learn experientially by being immersed in real texts and real literacy, they learn best holistically when they are exposed to the complete, real whole rather than the subparts, They learn best from whole words even whole sentences. They learn best by constructivest activities, constructing their own meaning in math, language etc, reinventing math and language in their own way and own time. This book spells out all of their own psycho babble in their own words. I recomend that people get a copy. I also would like to know how many people have seen or heard of this book bein used or recomended in their own districts?
