TO ALL: Ref: Spread of Peer Tutoring/STW Pilot Programs \doc\web\97\09\peertut.txt From: JoanEB001@aol.com Date sent: Thu, 6 Nov 1997 13:28:19 -0500 (EST) To: fredb001@spectra.net Copies to: diana@fessler.com, Djleonard1@aol.com Subject: Peers, and STW Pilot Programs A recent reference to peer tutoring having taken place without knowledge of parents of "peers" being trained to teach sex ed to younger students, drew a question about the peer tutoring. (This was in regard to an incident occurring two years or more ago in an Upstate NY rural school.) STRANGE COINCIDENCE THIS WEEK! We all have so much material that has been disregarded and set aside over years. This week I unearthed an old (Jan. 1994) Status of Workforce Preparation Pilot Projects report which had been given to me by someone who got it at a seminar in another rural school district, for another topic than peer education. People IGNORED the significance of the report. Didn't see the handwriting emerging on the wall of our future traps. (More on that in a separate post) As I was highlighting sections of the report to pass along to two interested loop members, OUT JUMPED THE FOLLOWING, which had been overlooked three years ago, amidst all the other report CLUES TO WHAT WAS GOING ON. Quote from the pilot program at New York City, Community District #9: "ALSO PART OF THE PROJECT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL IS A PEER TUTORING PROGRAM WHICH IS BEING DEVELOPED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE PEER TUTORING RESEARCH LABORATORY AT THE GRADUATE CENTER OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK. This facet of the project centers on the tutor as primary [primary!] beneficiary of the program, as it develops the attributes of personal responsibility, increased self-esteem, and interpersonal skills, as well as academic excellence." The report when first read several years ago was full of very ominous signposts. The report when re-read today is even more prophetic AND VALIDATED IN ITS ONGOING SWEEP TOWARD THE GOALS OF EDUCRATS. The report is 25 pages in length. A copy mailed to a loop member yesterday took $1.60 postage, plus an 8-1/2 by 11 flat envelope. If anyone on the loop would like a copy and will send $3.00 to cover costs only, we will copy the report for you, and add a page of things we feel should be specially noted when reading the report. (Send to Joan Battey, 9 East Brookside Ave., Apalachin, NY 13732. As with earlier copies we have agreed to provide, please then copy and circulate to others in your "circle," rather than asking us to make copies for numerous people individually.) IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHAT ANYONE'S POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS, PHILOSOPHICAL OR PROFESSIONAL LOYALTIES OR PREFERENCES ARE. THIS SCHOOL-TO-WORK GLOBAL AGENDA WILL AFFECT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US, AS WELL AS EVERYONE'S CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. DIVIDING OURSELVES INTO SQUABBLING CAMPS ONLY HASTENS THE DAY WE ALL FALL UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE EDUCATION/POLITICS GROUPS WHICH HAVE BEEN PROMOTING EVERY ASPECT OF THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. The only way to escape what is already almost too far under way to stop is to band together everyone who sees at least a part of the overall, longstanding and very expensive program. Otherwise, we are conquered by being divided by "them," or by choosing to do it ourselves. All of us have many dots to consider, many dots to connect and many priorities to reassess. JOAN
