Ohio Dept of Ed defines performance-based education in 1991 From: LZJOSHUA@aol.com Date sent: Sun, 12 Oct 1997 14:23:03 -0400 (EDT) In December 1992 the Ohio Department of Education drafted a document entitled, "Removing the Barriers: Unleashing Ohio's Learning Style". It contained the following related quotes: p. 73 "Ohio is moving toward performance-based education. Performance-based education, sometimes referred to as outcomes-based education, focuses on achieving previously stated outcomes." p. 10 "A performance-based education system consists of a five-step continuous cycle linking learner outcomes, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and rewards or consequences." [Melanie's note: "Continuous cycle" indicates that time is the variable, a common characteristic of OBE.] p. 10 "Performance-based education cannot mean simply teaching to one particular type of test. The challenge is to design and implement an assessment system that provides multiple indicators including cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains."
