UCLA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SELECTS STUDENTS ON BASIS OF STATE RACIAL QUOTAS \doc\web\97\05\schquot.txt F061297 Pacific Legal Foundation At Issue May 2, 1997. Four-year old Keeley Hunter, Asian-Caucasian applied for admission to the Corrine A. Seeds University Elementary school, publically funded, operated by UCLA's Graduate School of Education. Citing "research needs" it selects students based on race and ethnicity to reflect California's public school population. Keeley was allowed to complete only for one of the 8 slots for "Other (Multi-Ethnic)" and was denied admission in 1995. According to PLF "there is no moral or legal justification for an admissions policy that requires the ethnic makeup of a student body to be proportionally representative of the sate's overall population" even for research purposes (this is silly anyways, there are NO schools in California that match the state population anyway, they either have much more or much less than average) Her parents are suing the school over racial discrimination.
