There are many unknowns about Nidal Malik Hasan, the man authorities say is responsible for the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base. Most of all, his motive. The following are top 10 things about Nidal Malik Hasan that you don't know:
2. Six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.
3. A military official said Hasan's family has Palestinian roots. There have been reports that he was harassed for his Muslim religion, but the official says there is no indication Hasan filed a complaint within the military about that.
4. Retired Army Col. Terry Lee, who said he worked with Hasan, told Fox News that Hasan had hoped President Barack Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq.
5. On a form filled out by those seeking spouses through a program at the mosque, Hasan listed his birthplace as Arlington, Va., but his nationality as Palestinian, Khan said.
"I don't know why he listed Palestinian," said Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque Hasan attended. "He was not born in Palestine."
6. Hasan earned his rank of major in April 2008, according to a July 2008 Army Times article.
He served eight years as an enlisted soldier. He also served in the ROTC as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. He received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry there in 1997.
7. Hasan attended prayers regularly when he lived outside Washington, often in his Army uniform, said Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque Hasan attended in Silver Spring, Md. He said Hasan was a lifelong Muslim.
"I got the impression that he was a committed soldier," Khan said. He spoke often with Hasan about Hasan's desire for a wife.
8. A cousin, Nader Hasan, told The New York Times that after counseling soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder, Hasan knew war firsthand.
"He was mortified by the idea of having to deploy," Nader Hasan said. "He had people telling him on a daily basis the horrors they saw over there."
9. In an interview with The Washington Post, Hasan's aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church, Va., said he had been harassed about being a Muslim in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and he wanted out of the Army.
10. For six years before reporting for duty at Fort Hood, Texas, in July, Nidal Malik Hasan, the 39-year-old Army major worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center pursuing his career in psychiatry, as an intern, a resident and, last year, a fellow in disaster and preventive psychiatry. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001.

The guy's parents are from Palestine. He called himself a palestinean american. He cried "Allah Akbar". He's a devot muslim. His name is muslim. He's sided with muslims opposing American interests, and you can probably guess what he thought of Israel .I knew something was up the minute I saw the name Nidal Malik Hasan. But almost nobody wants to tie it in with muslim terrorism or anti-Americanism. The US government paid for this medical school, and this is how he repays the country that took his parents in? "Shame on all of you. Nowhere in this report is the word Muslim or Islam even mentioned. Peace_and_Justice_for_All 8"
speaking of vetting, how about a guy given a muslim name by a muslim father, has a muslim stepfather who occasionally took him to the mosque when he went to prayers and signed him up for two schools as a muslim, has friends who said they said muslim prayers, associated with pro-palestine groups, but has never been a muslim, and nobody claims is first in his office of muslim heritage??
Army Doctor Nidal Malik Hasan Allegedly Kills 13 at Fort Hood
Sources Close to the Major's Family in Ramallah Say He Was Unhappy About an Impending Deployment Overseas
By EMILY FRIEDMAN, RICHARD ESPOSITO, ETHAN NELSON, DESIREE ADIB and AMMU KANNAMPILLY
Nov. 6, 2009 —
Thirteen people died and 30 were wounded at a Texas military post in a shooting rampage that officials believe was carried out by an Army psychiatrist who was about to be deployed to Iraq.
The suspected gunman has been identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan. Hasan would have been deployed to Iraq later this month, an Army official said.
It would have been his first deployment, two sources told ABC News.
Hasan is believed to be of Palestinian origin: His grandfather moved to the United States in the 1940s. One of Hasan's two brothers recently moved to Ramallah and works in the West Bank, the sources said. Hasan's family is said to own a number of apartments in Ramallah.
The family has refused to speak to reporters, but a person close to the family told ABC News that Hasan had told his family he was unhappy about his impending deployment abroad.
The person also said that all three brothers -- a lawyer, a professor and a psychiatrist -- are highly educated. They lost both parents to cancer. Hasan's mother came from al Bireh, a Palestinian town close to Ramallah. She was traumatized by her experience in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, when she was 15, according to the source.
Hasan was initially reported to have been killed but Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone told a late-night news conference that the suspect was wounded and in custody. Cone declined to comment on Hasan's medical condition was but said he is expected to live.
Hasan has not spoken to authorities, Cone said.
Two other soldiers were taken into custody but were later released.
Hasan's cousin, Nader Hasan, issued a statement late Thursday. "We are shocked and saddened by the terrible events at Fort Hood today. We send the families of the victims our most heartfelt sympathies," the statement read.
"Nidal was an American citizen. He was born in Arlington, Va., and raised here in America. ... Our family loves America. We are proud of our country, and saddened by today's tragedy."
Hasan allegedly opened fire and killed 13 people on the post before he was shot several times. Among the wounded was a female police officer who exchanged gunfire with Hasan.
Cone called the attack "a terrible tragedy, stunning." He said the community was "absolutely devastated."
President Obama Pays Tribute to Fort Hood Victims
President Obama called the Fort Hood shootings a "horrific outburst of violence."
"It is difficult enough to lose soldiers overseas, but it is horrifying that they should lose their lives at an Army base in the U.S.," he said.
"My prayers are with the wounded and the families of the fallen," said the president.
The Senate and the House of Representatives held a moment of silence this evening for the victims of the Fort Hood massacre, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry ordered flags be flown at half mast until Sunday.
Cone said the motive for the attack, which took place just after 1:30 p.m. CT, is unclear. While he said he could not rule out the incident as an act of terrorism, evidence does not support that theory.
Hasan's cousin Nader Hasan said that she believed it was his upcoming deployment combined with the wartime horror stories he heard from his patients that set him off.
Hasan had reportedly recently hired an attorney to help him get out of the military.
According to the suspect's cousin, Hasan was also harassed after 9/11 because of his ethnicity, and was called a "camel jockey."
According to sources, Hasan, who is either 39 or 40, attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He graduated in 2003 with a degree in Osteopathy and later finished his residency as a psychiatrist.
In 2009, Hasan completed a fellowship in Disaster and Preventive Psychiatry at the Center for Traumatic Stress.
He was promoted to major status in May, according to the Army Times.
According to the Associated Press, Retired Army Col. Terry Lee told Fox News that Hasan had expressed hope that President Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and often argued with others who supported the wars.
Fort Hood Went on Lockdown After 12 Shot Dead
Fort Hood, located just 60 miles north from Austin, is the largest U.S. military installation in the world, and has suffered the greatest number of casualities of all American bases in the war on Iraq.
The base is a 340 sq. mile facility located in Killeen, Texas and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division, which was one of the first groups of soldiers deployed to Iraq.
Cone said that a gunman entered a facility known as the Soldier Readiness Facility, where soldiers who are preparing to deploy go for last minute medical check ups and dental treatment. Sources told ABC News that the soldiers gathered there were getting ready to deploy to Iraq.
Thursday is a day that brings many different military units to the facility to make up miss appointments, said Cone, which explains why the victims were part of different branches.
"This could have been much worse, as horrible as this was, it could have been much worse," said Cone.
Cone praised the soldiers' quick response and knowledge of first aid techniques in saving so many lives.
The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.
Cone said he did not believe the guns used were military weapons.
"As a matter of practice, we don't carry weapons here, this is our home," said Cone.
Schools on the base were also placed on lockdown. A message on Fort Hood's public affairs office Web site read, "Organizations/units are instructed to execute a 100 percent accountability of all personnel. This is not a Drill. It is an Emergency Situation."
According to a source on the base, it is rare for firearms to be on the base because they are locked up.
Homeland Security said it is still gathering information and that the "Army is taking the lead" as of now. FBI agents from Waco and Austin, Texas, are being deployed to the scene.
An army spokesman said that unit commanders have been instructed to account for all of their personnel.
"The immediate concern is to make sure that all of our soldiers and family members are safe and that's what commanders have been instructed to do," said Jay Adams of First Army, Division West, located at Fort Hood.
Cone emphasized the post's plans to amp up security in the coming days.
The CounterTerrorist Unit said they have "no word" yet on whether this incident was terrorism-related.
At least six victims are being treated at the Metroplex Hospital five miles away. Area hospitals are all requesting blood donations to treat victims.
Nasser Atta contributed to the reporting of this story from Ramallah.
Forget Muslim religion, psychiatry and fear of fighting. The issue exposed here is that we have been led down the path of what I call "The Ostrich Syndrome" Progressive politicians and the mainstream media has rationalized to us that the bad behavior of folks that are members of minority groups has nothing to do with their affiliation. Forget the glaring obvious; being politically correct trumps all. By circling around the obvious to come back to a kind and friendly acceptance of unacceptable behavior is emboldening our enemies and weakening our society.
ABC and their political correctness and their political correctness make me sick. Hasan ALLEGEDLY kills 13?? Are the victims ALLEGEDLY dead? All this babble about PTSD, political correctness, and stress aside, at the end of the day we will discover that this man’s allegiance was not to his country, not to his fellow soldiers, not to his job, but to a distorted view of his Muslim religion.
'My point is you cannot generalize about an entire religious belief system based on the actions of one psychologically unstable person.............'One???? LOLAFDL !And speaking of picking up a book and reading it, might I suggest yours should be a Bible......then perhaps you'd understand why the Hitlers and Pots exist in the first place, and how Islam enters into the entire picture (if yer pressed for time, just read the last Chapter)!
This action will forever tarnish the Muslim religion for me. I have always made an honest effort not to catagorize people. However it is painfully obvious that Muslims can not be trusted. Posted by: Pr0ud2BAmerican 7:43 AM ----------------- Using your logic, I assume Christianity is also 'tarnished' for you, right? Jeffery Dahmer was the son of a fundamentalist-creationist. David Berkowitz (the SON OF SAM), who murdered 10 women, called himself a born again Christian. Hitler was a Roman Catholic altar boy and wrote of wanting to be a Catholic priest. My point is you cannot generalize about an entire religious belief system based on the actions of one psychologically unstable person.............I am so glad to see this response because a truely proud American would understand that being nonjudgemental about hypothetical groups of people is what the United States is all about. Perhaps they could just find another country where its OK to pretend that all the members of any given group or religion are all the same, that it will be easier to just hate them with no remorse, I know! Create a government bureau that can cart them all off and eliminate them in some cost effective way--I think the Germans and The cambodians have done a lot of research on this--pick up a book--read it.
For most of us, it is a matter of "national security" that we must improve the "vetting process" of people coming into politics and the military...the "vetting process must become fail-safe...events like this can happen when we "really don't know, nor have all the facts and truth about an individual that we put in office and into the military...
Look at all the clowns pointing at the Nebraska bombing and a few other incidents to attempt to prove their case. Get over it clowns, there are murderers of every race, but the numbers pale in comparison to the acts of terror carried out by the muslims/islamists of this world. But by all means, hide yer heads in yer politically correct ostrich holes....denial is a might powerful thing.
nd0104 has a similar viewpoint with me... if 20 or 30% of Muslims are capable of terrorism, then we need to exercise a cautionary yet justifiable prejudice, especially in our military. We gotta play the odds, people. Sure this is gonna offend some, but what the duck. If all your beagles leave the chickens alone, yet your terriers are caught killing 'em time and time again, well, c'mon dude, you've got to look a little harder at them terriers, even if it's only a small % of terriers killing the chickens. But the most important thing-Peace to all families involved, my heart is with you and ABC please publish what blood type they need and if I've got a rare type they need, I'll go donate right ducking NOW!!
You Are absolutely right...Muslim is not a race..it is a state of mind. An organized religion who's current philosophy is to spread by all means neccessary (kill infidels). Yes the Christians had this state of mind...300 years ago...and has evolved to come to the realization that this thought process is actually evil.
See everyone? Is not it obvious?!!!! These PSYCHIATRISTS are dangerous! We need to outlaw PSYCHIATRY and lock them all up! They will kill us all!!!! (o.m.g!!!!)
With the exception of UN in NC, I think the balance of the comments are typical of people that have no clue about human behavior. It appears the man is having issues, mental instability. Obviously, what transpired is a horrible tragedy and Mr. Hasan should suffer the consequence for his actions. However, to place blame on an entire culture for an act perpetrated by an individual does not make sense. You folks are right about one thing, this is America, let due process run its course.
First my prayers go out to everyone involved, my son is now waiting for orders on his 5th tour, I know very well the price my family would have to pay, but to see this happen on one of our own bases? Now it seems we dont even have to go to them, they are already here right under our noses
At a time when people are suffering over this horrible tragedy, any thing we say may have little impact on the suffering and I want the victims and family's to know that I am so sorry for their loss. Words inevitably fall short of lifting the burden of loss. Wisdom and lessons that are embraced for the future do not. My reflection here is this. The military is the greatest pillar of the state, it is life and death and the will of its people. Those who choose to serve are to be bound by its ethics and moral imperatives. Is it Ok to harm one another in even the simplest ways? No, it is not. The soldier is trusted with an almost insurmountable burden. War is a result of the failure of diplomacy. This cannot be the concern of the soldier, but we all must respect that what they do is kill people. The pinnacle of warfare is not one hundred victories in one hundred battles. The pinnacle of warfare is to win the war before the batttle begins so that the opponent walks away. Our military is such a force--so terrible--so efficient--so good at what they do that a failure of diplomacy means destruction for any opponent. The guilty and the innocent among them will die. We are asking our military to bare this moral crisis on their soul when we are all of us responsible. I sense that this is the issue with the murderer--a man trained to heal was being deployed to assist in the destruction of others. Is his madness so difficult to understand? His brain was squirming like a toad. Our duty as citizens becomes more clear. We must not turn our backs on anything having to do with war.
"all terrorist are Muslims.". Really? are to too young or naive to remember the Oklahoma city bombings that killed so many? The columbine shootings were considered a massacre. Were these people Muslims?Statements as simple and unrefined as that are what breeds ignorance.Look at your facts. Islam is not the only religion that reward for violence or killing. Take a gander at the old testament and tell me what you fund. Keep in mind anyone who practices Islam is Muslim. Muslim is not a race.
first as my son is working on his 5th tour, this should have never happened, it is onething to lose our loved ones over there, but at one of our own base?
Pr0ud2BAmerican: I'd have to counter with, what kind of God allows such a thing as what happened at Fort Hood? Isn't the God of Christianity (and lately of the USA) supposed to be all powerful and could very well have prevented this tragedy? Why didn't He? Were the victims too bad to be saved? Were they Muslims too? Your "argument" has so many holes it doesn't hold anything. It just seems like you don't really care for people that are not like you.
I do not want to single out and say all Muslims are bad. There are good and bad in every religion. But, unfortunately, the bad count in Muslim is much larger, May be 20 times more than any other religion. If you think Christian, Jews, Buddist and Hindus have 1% bad population, I am of the opinion that they have 20-30% bad population. Countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan need to be targeted to flush out all terrorists and mad religious folks.
I am a retired Army NCO and served on 2 overseas deployments after 9/11. I stood in the very processing center on Fort Hood where the shootings took place. This man was an officer in the medical field. I doubt he would have even carried a rifle. Officers are usually issued a sidearm only. Furthermore, it is typical for medical personnel, especially psychiatrists, to be stationed at a medical facility, not serve on combat patrols. I am confused about the comments that he would have to kill other Muslims. He didn't seem to have any trouble killing.
I was wondering what inane comments would follow this story. For all you Muslim haters, what did you say when Timothy McVeigh and Terri Nichols bombed an Oklahoma City high rise? What about when John Russell shot up fellow soldiers at Camp Liberty?Military action messes with the minds of some of our most competent citizens. It is a tribute to our Military Forces that these incidents are as few as they are. As for the rest of us, we've had nothing but a sanitized view of this war as we continue to "shop" at our malls with our "hands on our hearts." My prayers to the victims and their families.
"Shame on all of you. Nowhere in this report is the word Muslim or Islam even mentioned. What a rash assumption that this man is a practicing Muslim..."NO...BUT IF YOU'D READ ALMOST ANY OTHER NEWS SITE, OR LISTENED TO HIS RELATIVES ON TELEVISION LAST NIGHT, YOU WOULD FIND THAT HE IS.
The guy yelled 'allahu akbar' before he started shooting which means 'Allah is the Greatest'. In my eyes this waste of life is a terrorist and he needs to be tortured for the rest of his life.
American_marine22: I'm not sure it's sad as much as it's become typical. The bigotry and racism in the US is staggering at times. Thanks for your post -- it was good to read in the midst of all this dreck. The situation at Fort Hood is bad enough without throwing all this garbage into it too.
It was said that what happened at Ft. Hood is an insult to those of us in the Armed Forces. I would just like to say, "Thank You". Those of us who go about our daily jobs, get deployed and return home safely should feel insulted. Its ridiculous to think that you can survive a deployment where the "enemy" is attacking you with RPG's and IED's only to be gunned down by one of your own. Maybe now that the economy has forced more people into joining the Armed Forces, we can sit back and take a look at who exactly we are trusting with the lives our countries sons and daughters.
Wake up you idiots! What kind of God is it that condones suicide bomming and mass murder as a way to heaven and , oh yeah let's not forgrt thoes virgins!
Some people in this country are as evil as the terrorists we fight. Chirtsianity is not great teacher of compassion and love despite what some of you think. It has a history of intoelrance for others, of killing people who won't convert. Neither Islam nor Christianity and their respective fundamentalists are so great. What we as a country should wake up to is the fact that morons both on our side and in the Muslim world are making things bad for everyone. What Christian fundamentalists have done in the Airforce academy is terrible! There are people in our own country trying to create an American form of Christian fundmentalism that would be as bad as the Taliban. Most of the morons who have posted their opinions here have never read Thomas Paine, or Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin. Old Jay Bee, and Proud2 Be An American, are just as much morons as any tribal member of Al Qaeda.
Shame on all of you. Nowhere in this report is the word Muslim or Islam even mentioned. What a rash assumption that this man is a practicing Muslim, or that his faith had anything to do with this heinous attack! You people need to wake up and recognize that your own hate and intolerance fuel violence like this, not prevent it.
This doesn't have anything to do with terrorism, nationality, faith, etc. He was scared to be sent into war.. Instead of sucking it up, he turned on those that called him a camel jockey like the people posting here on this board.. A true american response.
1. Why doesn't this tarnish Psychiatrists to you? 2. Christians are no great prize either. After all, some of them have been known to kill people for not being Christian, and have forced them to convert. what fundamentalist Christians have done at the Air Force academy is terrible.3. Islam is not only made up of fundamentalists. Sufis would never do such a thing.Dhrai, Proud2BAmerican and Old_Jay_Bee are the sorts of men who do not understand real American values. They are the sort who are no different in their hatred than the Taliban and Al Qaeda against whom we fight. Just to be clear, I dislike both Christian and Muslim theology, and I was born in the USA, and I revere Benjamin Frainklin and Thomas Paine and Thomas jefferson, three men whose writings I doubg the three posters whom I have criticized have ever read.
when a person with this kind of position snaps ,it just makes me wonder what good was he doing with our soldiers? Was this just an excuse to be on the inside and do something to our military? Terrorist's are in our mist and have been for years.I still believe that these epidemic strains of flu are created as a form of germ warfare. The media only tells us what they want us to hear.
This whole thing stinks of sleeper cell to me.
Of course we have Muslims in the US Army. We also have Christians, Jews, and agnostics. This man was obviously demented but it is a mistake to paint all Islam with the same tar brush.
And so it begins, there is no end.
Another heartfelt gesture from 'the religion of peace'... hah!
This should drive home the need for the military to look to see how deployments are affecting not only soldiers but their families as well. We, the nation, need to come up with an way for soldiers to decompress with professional help, to include the family even if it has to be mandatory. The one year off is not working for soldiers who PCS during their one year home because if they go to a unit that is deploying they have to go again...this happens a lot!
USA IS FOOLISH COUNTRY TO BELEIVE AND PLACE THEM IN STUDIES, JOBS AND WORST IN ARMY
This action will forever tarnish the Muslim religion for me. I have always made an honest effort not to catagorize people. However it is painfully obvious that Muslims can not be trusted. What do you expect from someone who's greatest purpose in life to serve their god would be to take their own life and we all expect that they would respect ours. Come on America.... Wake-up! It is undeniable.
He probably didn't want to be seen by other middle-east people wearing a United States Army uniform. So he decided to kill himself and take a bunch or "infidels" with him so he could be a "hero". Sort of like a suicide bombing.
I have always tried my best not to catagorize people. This action has forever ruined how I feel about the Muslim religion and it's followers. They can not be trusted. Wake up America.
3>> Fort Hood killer Nidal Malik Hasan opposed wars, so why did he snap?
Sklar/Getty
Soldiers wait to enter Fort Hood near the main entrance to the base on Thursday.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was a soldier who didn't want to go to war, a man of God who defended murder and a doctor who shot up the soldiers he was supposed to heal.
As he lay mute in a hospital bed Thursday night, investigators were scrambling to figure out what prompted his rampage.
Hasan had been a psychiatrist treating wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington until bad reviews got him transferred to Fort Hood, Tex., in July.
He was due to ship out to war, and his family said he did not want to go.
"We've known for the last five years that was his worst nightmare," cousin Nader Hasan told Fox News, calling the suspect "a good American."
He said his cousin "was dealing with some harassment from his military colleagues." KXXV-TV reported someone keyed the word "Allah" into Hasan's car last week and he reported it as a hate crime.
A former co-worker told Fox News the Army major opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"He said maybe the Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor," Col. Terry Lee said.
"At first, we thought he was talking about how Muslims should stand up and help the armed forces in Iraq and in Afghanistan, but apparently that wasn't the case."
Before being sent to Texas, Hasan, 39, lived in Silver Spring, Md., where a former imam at the Muslim Community Center described him as devout.
He attended daily services and signed up for the mosque's matchmaking service.
"He wanted a wife more religious than him," Faizul Khan told the Daily News. "She had to pray five times a day. She had to wear the hajib. He was a young, good looking guy and a physician but he couldn't find anybody."
Khan said he never heard Hasan express any political opinions. But at least once this year, Hasan apparently went online to defend suicide bombing.
Responding to a treatise on whether suicide bombers could be martyrs when Islam outlaws suicide, Hasan compared them to a soldier who jumps on a grenade.
"You can call them crazy [if] you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam," he wrote.
Hasan was born in Virginia to Palestinian parents who emigrated from Jordan.
His carnage followed several other cases of U.S. soldiers turning homicidal against their comrades.
In May, Sgt. John Russell, 44, went on a rampage at Camp Liberty in Iraq, killing five soldiers in an anti-stress clinic. Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich, 39, murdered two superiors at a base south of Baghdad in September 2008.
Suicides are also on the rise. Army suicides are up 37% since 2006, and the military rate is higher than the civilian rate.
Since the 2003 Iraq invasion, 75 Fort Hood soldiers have killed themselves, nine this year. That prompted the base to take steps to reduce stress on soldiers, including cutting work hours and ordering them to be home in time for dinner.
Experts say fighting two wars has put unprecedented stress on soldiers forced to endure multiple deployments in combat zones where battle is unconventional.
"In Iraq and Afghanistan, you're in a constant state of attention, and you don't know who the enemy is," Rizzo said. "The nervous system adjusts to that, but when they come home, some folks have a hard time turning that stuff off."
Bryan Adams, 25, an ex-Army sniper from New Jersey, said it's easy for returning soldiers to turn to violence.
"When you're on deployment, you get used to being overly aggressive," Adams, who served in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, said. "Violent behavior is kind of used to solve problems over there, so when you come back it can be hard to tone that down."

How did an anti-American, supporter of Islamic terrorism and suicide bombing rise to the rank of Major in the United States Army? This is a horror story. It makes the US military look like a bunch of bumbling idiots. Was anyone listening when this man was making his anti-American statements? This looks like infiltration to me. I hear there was more than one shooter, so, that means he wasn't the only insider who felt that way. Every American should be terrified that this could happen on US soil and in our own military. This is also similar to the radical, pro-terrorism, anti-American propaganda that is going on outside the Islamic mosque in NYC.

ISo Killeen, Texas is back in the news with mass murder. I notice people are carrying on about the Muslim religion and somehow connecting what the shooter did with his Muslim faith. I remember a mass shooting years ago in the very same town so I did a little research and here is what I found:"The Luby's massacre was an incident of mass murder that took place on October 16, 1991 in Killeen, Texas, United States when George Jo Hennard drove his pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria and shot and killed 23 people, wounded another 20 and then committed suicide by shooting himself. It was the deadliest shooting rampage in American history until the Virginia Tech massacre. On October 16, 1991, Hennard drove his 1987 Ford Ranger pickup truck through the front window of a Luby's Cafeteria at 1705 East Central Texas Expressway in Killeen, yelled "This is what Belton did to me!", then opened fire on the restaurant's patrons and staff with a Glock 17 pistol and later a Ruger P89.http://en.wikipedia.

That's right the solution is to deport all the Muslims. Bet none of you people calling for deporting and jailing of Muslims have a damn thing to say about all the cuckoo American militias that dot this country. Timothy McVeigh was American, homegrown. Just like this scumbag. For every extremist, there are millions of law abiding Muslims that love this country.

Put blame where it belongs. Nidal Hasan is an evil murdering traitor and I hope he gets the death penalty. Don't let him off the hook by shifting the blame to Islam or to the U.S. Army. There are plenty of good truly peace-loving Muslims. And there are plenty of brave American soldiers who don't "snap". This one individual is evil - let him keep all his blame for himself.

"Experts say fighting two wars has put unprecedented stress on soldiers forced to endure multiple deployments in combat zones where battle is unconventional." This man was NOT suffering from being deployed in battle, and he was not suffering from PTSD. It's an incredible insult to compare this murderer to those who have seen battle, suffered and then returned again to serve their country. This man killed because he disapproved of the US fighting against Muslims, and he joined his fellow Muslims in an act of jihad against his fellow soldiers, whom he had called the "aggressors".

The people who hate can find all kinds of reasons to want to do the same to whoever it is they deem worthy of their hate. It isn't something restricted to one religion or other, the KKK fancied themselves as christians, as do the Arayan skinheads and the rest of the mouth breathers. Of course Jesus said that anyone who hates is not a disciple of his, ever. Jesus wants us to pray, even for our 'Enemies'. Now that kind of Christianity takes real courage.

WASHINGTON - Born and reared in Virginia, the son of immigrant parents from a small Palestinian town near Jerusalem, he joined the Army right out of high school, against his parents’ wishes. The Army, in turn, put him through college and then medical school, where he trained to be a psychiatrist.
But Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the 39-year-old man accused of Thursday’s mass shooting at Fort Hood, Tex., started having second thoughts about his military career a few years ago after other soldiers harassed him for being a Muslim, he told relatives in Virginia.
He had also more recently expressed deep concerns about being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. Having counseled scores of returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder, first at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and more recently at Fort Hood, he knew all too well the terrifying realities of war, said a cousin, Nader Hasan.
“He was mortified by the idea of having to deploy,” Mr. Hasan said. “He had people telling him on a daily basis the horrors they saw over there.”
Disturbing postings
The Federal Bureau of Investigation had earlier become aware of Internet postings by a man who called himself Nidal Hasan, a law enforcement official said. The postings discussed suicide bombing in a favorable light, but the investigators were not clear whether the writer was Major Hasan.
In one posting on the Web site Scribd, a man named Nidal Hasan compared the heroism of a soldier who throws himself on a grenade to protect fellow soldiers to suicide bombers who sacrifice themselves to protect Muslims.
“If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory,” the man wrote. It could not be confirmed, however, that the writer was Major Hasan.

Major Hasan was wounded and taken into custody by the Fort Hood police after the shooting spree, in which 12 people, many of them soldiers, were killed, and at least 31 others were wounded. The shootings occurred at a readiness center where soldiers are put through a series of medical, dental, legal and other paces in preparation for being deployed.
Though Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas reported that Major Hasan was to be deployed later this month, that could not be confirmed with the Army Thursday night.
Family shocked at news
Nader Hasan said his cousin never mentioned in recent phone calls to Virginia that he was going to be deployed, and he said the family was shocked when it heard the news on television Thursday afternoon.
“He was doing everything he could to avoid that,” Mr. Hasan said. “He wanted to do whatever he could within the rules to make sure he wouldn’t go over.”
Several years ago, that included retaining a lawyer and making inquiries about whether he could get out of the Army before his contract was up, because of the harassment he had received as a Muslim. But Nader Hasan said the lawyer had told his cousin that even if he paid the Army back for his education, it would not allow him to leave before his commitment was up.
“I think he gave up that fight and was just doing his time,” Mr. Hasan said.

Nader Hasan said his cousin’s parents had both been American citizens who owned businesses, including restaurants and a store, in Roanoke, Va. He declined to confirm reports that they were Jordanian, but said the parents, who are both dead, had immigrated from a small town near Jerusalem many years ago.
His mother’s obituary, published in The Roanoke Times in 2001, said she was born in Palestine in 1952. It described her as a restaurant owner “known for her ability to keep sometimes rowdy customers out of trouble and always had a warm meal for someone who otherwise would not have anything to eat that evening.”
Successful family
Records show that Major Hasan had received his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech University and his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.

He did his residency at Walter Reed Medical Center and then worked there for several years before being transferred to the Darnell Army Medical Center at Fort Hood earlier this year.
Major Hasan was not married and had two brothers, one living in Virginia and another in Jerusalem, his cousin said. The family, by and large, had prospered in the United States, with various members working in law, banking and medicine, Mr. Hasan said.
Nader Hasan, 40, a lawyer living in Northern Virginia, described his cousin as a respectful, hard-working man who had devoted himself to his parents and his career.
He said his cousin had been a practicing Muslim who had become more devout after the deaths of his parents, in 1998 and 2001. But he said he had not expressed anti-American views or radical ideas.
“His parents didn’t want him to go into the military,” Mr. Hasan said. “He said, ‘No, I was born and raised here, I’m going to do my duty to the country.’ ”

UPDATE: Shlep Smith has the jihadi's cousin on the phone, Nader Hasan, and Schlep is lapping up the lies and he is doing the taqiya. Nader is saying the Malik was a great American. Hasan is saying that the mass murderer "was harassed" and that's why he methodically planned and executed this massive attack on a US military installation.
He was not a convert. He is a devout Muslim who joined the army with a purpose.
7:16 pm UPDATE: Malik Nadal Hasan, the jihadi who led the attack on Fort Hood, was quoted as saying "Muslims have the right to rise up against the US military" "The
Muslims have a right to stand up against the aggressors" "Maybe we should have more of these where people strap bombs on themselves and go into Times Square" - this according to Col Terry Lee, who worked with Muslim convert.
No word on the two other suspects ..... something tells me they are not scientologists.
UPDATE: Unprecedented in American history.
Major General Robert Scales said he spoke to soldiers on the ground. This was "not the act of a crazy". This was not the random act of a nutcase. It was execution style, close range. He shot 44 - 50 rounds - that's a lot of ammunition to come out of those two guns in such a short period of time. This was premeditated. "A deliberate act of execution of the largest army base in America".
He was a psychiatrist. That's rich. Obama called it" a horrific act of violence". Obama just barely broke away from his tribal conference (did you hear his remarks after we had to sit through his tired well worn victimization of native Americans?) - and then finally, he made the most cursory of remarks. It was pathetic.
UPDATE: Here is the video. Watch your president after the worst act of war on the largest army base in American history. And Barack Hussein Obama gives a "Shout-Out" before he comments on the shooting.
A civilian policeman shot the Muslim terrorist Malik Nadal Hasan. The hero who shot him dead was killed in the ensuing gunfire.
The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, told Fox News that military sources informed her that the gunman was about to be deployed to Iraq.
The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.
The general said there were "eyewitness accounts of more than one shooter," and the others were tracked to an adjacent facility.
Cone said that a gunman entered a facility known as the Soldier Readiness Facility, where soldiers who are preparing to deploy go for last minute medical check ups and dental treatment. Sources told ABC News that the soldiers gathered there were getting ready to deploy to Iraq.
The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.
"The gunman opened fire and essentially due to the quick respond of the police forces was killed," said Cone.
The shooter was killed by civilian law enforcement and one police officer died in the shootout, Cone said.
The gunman's suspected accomplices were taken into custody in an adjacent facility known as the old SportsDome Complex.
UPDATE: FOX's SHLEP SMITH WON'T SAY HIS NAME, but will "connect the dots". Which dots? That the reason this terror cell committed this act of war was because "he didn't want to go to Iraq".
UPDATE: Shepard Smith won't utter Malik Nadal's Hasan's name! He won't say his name. The primary gunman. But wait -- he is making excuses for him. He is saying he didn't want to go to war.
Al Qaeda directed Muslims to infiltrate the military for these very attacks.
UPDATE: Shepard Smith, that silly woman, keeps calling it a tragedy. It is an act of war.
UPDATE: OMG, are you watching the news? Shep and the other flapping tongues speculating, "Was it stress?" "Did he not want to go to war?" "The men at Fort Hood are searching for a motive." "Did his deployment lead the officer to commit these acts"?
IT'S THE JIHAD STUPID
MUSLIM KILLER: The suspected gunman was identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.
UPDATE: The coverage is beyond stupid. Three men -- is a conspiracy. Three men is a terror cell. For the FBI to rule out terrorism in an obvious act of terrorism (by whom, we know not yet) indicates we are worse off than the UK. Three men, synchronized shooting, M16s, maximum kill ............ you won't get the real story from the media.
Did anyone see Obama at the tribal conference? Talk about making it up to the native Americans (????????) and then a lightweight, toss off ON THE MASS SLAUGHTER at Fort Hood.
UPDATE: FBI says it's not terrorism. Has the FBI hit the ground yet? How can they say that so fast? And frankly, this mass shooting is the very definition of terrorism. FBI asshattery. Obama is at a tribal conference (no joke). When the conference is over, he'll hold a press conference. Teleprompters and mirrors, man your stations.
How can the FBI say it's not terrorism? It's three shooters with M16. That's a conspiracy. Three shooters across seven buildings.
UPDATE: FBI is en route. Why the FBI? This is military. WTF? More Obama "law enforcement" asshattery?
UPDATE: Possibly 30 wounded at the largest military installation of its kind in the country.
One gunman was in custody and another was on the loose, local media reported. One station said there was a third shooter involved. It went down during graduation ceremony.
'Seven shot dead' at US army base
At least seven people have been killed and 12 others injured in a shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, according to US media reports.
One person has been arrested and at least one more is reportedly on the loose. The base has been locked down.
NBC News network said the two suspects were in military uniform and that the shooter-at-large was believed to have a high-powered sniper rifle.
Fort Hood, located near the town of Killeen, is a large US military base.
Home to about 40,000 US troops, it lies halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles (97 km) from each city.
It is not yet clear whether those reported killed and injured are civilians or military personnel.
Local congressman John Carter, speaking to NBC News, confirmed that there had been a shooting at the base, saying the gunfire had erupted during a graduation ceremony.
The BBC's Adam Brookes in Washington says there are military police and Swat teams on the scene, and the FBI is on the way. Schools in the area have also been locked down.

Let’s start with Powerline
The question, obviously, is whether it was a terrorist attack, or just a disgruntled soldier who snapped. The gunman who murdered at least eleven people has been identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a psychiatrist who has been working at Walter Reed and was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq.
There have been reports that two other men were taken into custody, but they now have apparently been released. It’s also being reported that a third man has been picked up for questioning. This seems odd, if Hasan was a lone gunman. If others were involved it presumably could suggest a terrorist attack. At present, though, there is no strong evidence of others’ participation.
UPDATE: It’s now being reported that Hasan, a Muslim, posted favorable comments about suicide bombers on a web site. All of this is just one step above rumor, for now, however.
FURTHER UPDATE: A Lt. General giving a press conference says that, contrary to earlier reports, Major Hasan is alive. He also confirms that three other people have been taken into custody and interviewed, but says that indications are that Hasan was a “single shooter.”
MORE: The Associated Press reports that Hasan was investigated six months ago because of internet postings that praised Islamic suicide bombers:
One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.
“To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its (sic) more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause,” said the Internet posting. “Scholars have paralled (sic) this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers.”
Again, this information is preliminary at best, especially since there are indications that two doctors, the shooter and someone completely unrelated, share the same name. More will be known before long.

China Confidential is reporting: Jerusalem Arabs Praise Fort Hood Shooter
China Confidential sources in East Jerusalem say many residents of the predominantly Arab section are expressing strong support for the Muslim U.S. Army major who mowed down his fellow soldiers at the huge Fort Hood, Texas base and processing center for troops bound for Afghanistan and Iraq.
The word on the so-called Arab street is that Major Nidal Malik Hasan should be admired because he stood up for fellow Muslims overseas, against U.S. "aggression," and that his anger, disappointment, and presumed sense of betrayal over U.S. President Barack Obama's failure to end the Afghan and Iraq conflicts is understandable, especially in light of Obama's own Muslim heritage.
In Hamas-ruled Gaza, sources say, the reaction is overwhelmingly in support of the shooter. He would clearly be given a hero's welcome there.

Political correctness is going to rout this country. The jihadi who mowed down scores at Fort Hood was an adviser to DHS. This at the same time that DHS was writing reports that right wing extremists like Grandma, Veterans, tea parties, patriots were the real threat. And Hasan had a jihad history.

Of course. Why not? He was a "moderate." Until he wasn't.
"Nidal Hasan: Ft. Hood Shooter Participated in Homeland Security Disaster Preparation," from Gawker, November 6 (thanks to Mary Belle):
The gunman who killed 12 people today at Ft. Hood appears, based on current media reports, to be Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan who was listed as a participant in a Homeland Security Policy Institute's presidential transition task force last year.
The task force was not officially affiliated with the White House. It was a project of the Homeland Security Policy Institute, an independent thinktank housed at George Washington University, aimed at drafting policy recommendations for the incoming Obama administration.
According to the task force's May 2009 report [pdf], a "Nidal Hasan" from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine was a task force event participant. Other participants included Senate and House staffers, Department of Homeland Security officials, Defense Department officials, and reporters for Politico, the Washington Post, and the London Times....

NidalHasan scribbled: There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier. To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause. Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory. Their intention is not to die because of some despair. The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy i you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam. So the scholars main point is that "IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE" and Allah (SWT) knows best.
Their blood is on the hands of Islamic apologists, dhimmis, media, the weak, and lily livered politicians. The media spin on this massacre is another form of attack on America.
UPDATE: CAIR is spinning like a washing machine on steroids. At their press conference this evening they spun the post traumatic syndrome (even though Hasan was never in Iraq - helloooo). The media is eating this nonsensical cud right up. This is jihad.
But you have to hand it to them, the Islamic spin machine is da bomb.
On Thursday night, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad told a news conference the alleged Fort Hood attacker's motive remained unknown.
"We urge all Americans to remain calm in reaction to this tragic event and to demonstrate once again what is best about America -- our nation's ability to remain unified even in times of crisis," Awad said. "We urge national political and religious leaders and media professionals to set a tone of calm and unity.
"Unfortunately, based on past experience, we also urge American Muslims, and those who may be perceived to be Muslim, to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, their families and their religious institutions from possible backlash." (Rantburg)

Army major Nidal Malik Hasan, identified by Texas officials as the gunman, was wounded during the shooting. Eleven other victims were killed, 31 were wounded. Hasan is in Army hospital custody.
|
The military psychiatrist accused of gunning down 12 people in Texas lived most of his life in the D.C. area where he was considered a caring Muslim by friends -- but he had recently made disturbing statements about suicide attacks.
U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, earned a degree from Virginia Tech, completed a residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and attended prayer services nearly every day in Silver Spring for several years.
He was described as a caring person by a local Muslim leader, but those who got to know him after he was transferred to Fort Hood in July recalled hearing disturbing statements that foreshadowed Monday's violence.
Nidal Malik Hasan
» 39 years old
» Born in Virginia
» Single with no children » Had been a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to Fort Hood in July.
» Graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 1997.
» Received a medical degree in 2001 and a master’s degree in public health last year from the military’s Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda.
Six months ago Hasan came to the attention of the FBI because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings.
After lauding a Muslim U.S. Army soldier who killed comrades in Kuwait in 2003, Hasan wrote in an online posting, "If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers ... that would be considered a strategic victory."
Ishtiaq Chughtai, the president of the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring, said Hasan attended prayers daily, often in his uniform, and showed no signs that he was conflicted about being deployed.
"It's very sad for our people, the American people," Chughtai said. "This is a tragedy that's going to stay in the back of our minds for a long time."
Hasan attended the Muslim center for about six years and seemed like a good person, Chughtai said. He gave people rides home and sometimes the money from his pocket.
But things appeared to go wrong for Hasan near the end of his time at Walter Reed. He received a poor evaluation while there.
At Fort Hood, Hasan exhibited a troubled state of mind. Retired Col. Terry Lee, who worked with Hasan at the psych ward at Fort Hood, told Fox News that about six months ago he heard Hasan say, "Maybe the Muslims should rise up and fight against the aggressor," in Iraq and Afghanistan -- referring to the U.S. Army.
Hasan earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997 from Virginia Tech, where he was a member of the ROTC.
He attended grad school in Bethesda at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine.
In 2007, he completed a residency in psychiatry at Walter Reed and just wrapped up a fellowship in disaster and preventive psychiatry, also at Walter Reed.
According to records, Hasan is a U.S. citizen and was registered to vote in 2001 and 2004 in Virginia, with an address in Vinton. He had also lived in Montgomery County, Arlington and Roanoke, Va.
In April 2008, Hasan was a participant in George Washington University's Homeland Security Policy Institute task force that aimed at providing advice on security to the new administration.
The group met until January of this year and forwarded recommendations on to President Obama.
The Virginia-born soldier is single with no children.
Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson said Hasan's family was originally from Jordan. He was scheduled to be deployed and he was upset about that, she said.

Fort Hood shooting
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fort Hood shooting was a spree killing that occurred on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Fort Hood, a United States Army post in Texas. Major Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist stationed at the Killeen U.S. Army base, is alleged to have entered the Soldier Readiness Center, opening fire at approximately 1:30 p.m. (local time), and killing 13 people and wounding 30 others.
Hasan was then shot four times by police and seriously injured. Following the shooting, Hasan was hospitalized on a ventilator,[2] under heavy guard, and authorities had not yet determined the motivation for the shooting.
Hasan had come to the attention of federal authorities at least six months before the attacks because of internet postings he may have made discussing suicide bombings[3] and other threats.[4]
[edit] Shootings
According to news reports, Major Hasan entered the Soldier Readiness Center – a complex used to process soldiers before and after deployment – at approximately 1:30 p.m. (CST) and opened fire with two handguns on a crowd gathered 30 minutes before a scheduled college graduation ceremony for soldiers and family members.[5] Soldiers who witnessed the shooting reported that Hasan shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire.[6] Thirteen people (twelve soldiers and one civilian) were killed;[7] eleven people died at the scene and the twelfth[8] and thirteenth[9] later in the hospital. Thirty-one others were wounded before Hasan was shot at least four times by a local police officer, Kimberly Munley, who was herself shot in the leg by Hasan.[2][10] Contrary to initial reports he was not killed in the incident, and was hospitalized in stable condition.[1]
Initially, three soldiers were believed to have been involved in the shooting; two soldiers were initially detained but subsequently released. The Fort Hood website posted a notice that indicated that the shooting was not a drill. Immediately after the shooting, the base and surrounding areas, including a number of local schools, were locked down with military police and SWAT teams. The lockdown lasted about five hours and by 7 p.m. local time was lifted.[11] In addition, FBI agents were called in from Austin and Waco,[12] and Texas Rangers were dispatched.[13] United States President Barack Obama was briefed on the incident, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters. President Obama later held a press conference about the shooting.[1]

Major Nidal Malik Hasan, age 39, was a U.S. Army psychiatrist at the time of the shooting. In July 2009 he had been transferred to Fort Hood from Washington's Walter Reed Medical Center.[1]
[edit] Early life and education
Hasan described himself as being of Palestinian descent as his mother was born in Palestine.[14] His parents migrated to the U.S. from a small Palestinian town near Jerusalem.[15] He was born in Virginia, where he grew up. He joined the army immediately after high school, and in exchange the army paid for him to go to college and subsequently to medical school.[15] Hasan graduated in 1995 from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and in 2003 from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences with a medical degree (M.D.), and later finished his residency as a psychiatrist.[16][17] In 2009, he completed a fellowship in Disaster and Preventive Psychiatry at the Center for Traumatic Stress.[18]
[edit] Recent events
Hasan was promoted from Captain to Major in May 2009.[18][19] Before being transferred to Fort Hood in July 2009, Hasan had received a poor performance evaluation.[4]
According to Hasan's aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church, Virginia, he had sought for several years to receive a discharge, due to harassment relating to his religion, Islam. An Army spokesman could not confirm the aunt's statement.[20]
Hasan had come to the attention of federal authorities at least six months before the attacks because of internet postings he may have made discussing suicide bombings[3] and other threats. However, it remains unclear whether he was the author of the posts, and no official investigation was opened.[4]
According to retired Colonel Terry Lee, "He said maybe Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor. At first we thought he meant help the armed forces, but apparently that wasn't the case. Other times he would make comments we shouldn't be in the war in the first place."[21]
Hasan was about to be deployed, whether to Iraq or Afghanistan is unclear,[22] on November 28. According to Jeff Sadoski, spokesperson of U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, "Hasan was upset about his deployment".[17] Hasan's cousin, Nader Hasan, a lawyer in Virginia, said that Nidal Hasan turned against the wars after hearing the stories of those who came back from Afghanistan and Iraq.[23] Noel Hamad said, however, that the family did not know he was being sent to Iraq. "He didn't tell us he was going to deploy," she said.[24]
Faizul Khan, the former imam of a mosque in Silver Spring, Maryland, where Hasan prayed several times a week, said he was "a reserved guy with a nice personality. We discussed religious matters. He was a fairly devout Muslim."[14]
According to his cousin, Nidal Hasan was a practicing Muslim who had become more devout after the deaths of his parents in 1998 and 2001.[15] However, his cousin does not recall him ever expressing any radical or anti-American views.[15] The cousin claimed that Hasan had been harassed by his Army colleagues because of his Middle Eastern ethnicity. Said the cousin, "He was dealing with some harassment from his military colleagues. I don’t think he’s ever been disenchanted with the military. It was the harassment. He hired a military attorney to try to have the issue resolved, pay back the government, to get out of the military. He was at the end of trying everything."[25]
A convenience store security video reportedly showed Hasan wearing a traditional salwar kameez. The garment is predominantly worn in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but not in Jordan or Palestine where Hasan had ancestral ties. Hasan wore all white, which is traditionally associated with death and mourning in Islam.[26][27] Additionally, the morning of the shooting Hasan gave away furniture from his home, saying he was going to be deployed on friday. He also was handing out copies of the Quran.[28]
According to some sources, Hasan is single with no children.[29][30] However, a former neighbor of Hasan, David Cook, said two sons were living with Hasan at that time, around 1997, and they attended local schools. Cook said of him, "As far as I know, he was a single father. I never saw a wife."[14] According to military records Hasan was unmarried.[31]
[edit] Victims
As of midday November, 6, 2009, the casualty count was 13 people killed, 12 soldiers and one civilian, and 28 wounded.[31] Ten of the wounded survivors of the shooting were treated at Scott & White Memorial Hospital, a Level 2 trauma center in Temple, Texas.[32] All of them had gunshot wounds.[32] Seven more were taken to Metroplex Adventist Hospital in Killeen.[32] Another wounded victim, Kimberly Munley [33] a civilian police officer working on the base, who is credited with shooting the suspect, was originally reported to have been killed.[12] At least ten of the dead were soldiers.[1] The first reported fatality is Army PFC Michael Pearson. [34]
[edit] Response
Lieutenant General Robert W. Cone, commanding officer of Fort Hood, called the attack "a terrible tragedy, stunning", saying the base community was "absolutely devastated."[35] Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Defense Department called the shooting an "isolated and tragic case."[36] and Defense Secretary Robert Gates said, "I can pledge that the Department of Defense will do everything in its power to help the Fort Hood community get through these difficult times."[37] The chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee Carl Levin said "Our hearts go out to the families of the brave Americans who lost their lives in today's senseless violence at Fort Hood, Texas, and to those who were injured."[37] The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the shooting,[38] expressing prayers for the victims and condolences for their families.[39]
Other military bases increased security in the hours after the shooting.[40][41][42]
Within minutes of the incident becoming public, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and former president George W. Bush, issued statements of support and sympathy for the victims. Obama described the incident as "tragic" and "a horrific outburst of violence" in a press conference in Washington, D.C. going on to say, "It is difficult enough when we lose these brave men and women abroad, but it is horrifying that they should come under fire at an army base on U.S. soil." "My immediate thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and the families of the fallen," he said. Obama also offered his help to Cone.[1] His statement was preceded by Joe Biden who said "Jill and I join the President and Michelle Obama in expressing our sympathies to the families of the brave soldiers who fell today. We are all praying for those who were wounded and hoping for their full and speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the entire Fort Hood community as they deal with this senseless tragedy",[43] while Bush said he "was saddened to learn of the tragic incident at Fort Hood. Laura Bush and I are keeping the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."[37] Texas Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn each issued messages expressing their shock and sympathy at the shooting.[12][44]

Nader Hasan, cousin to Nidal Malik Hasan, one of the gunmen in the Fort Hood massacre, spoke to Fox News' Shepard Smith on the phone tonight and went out of his way to stress his family is shocked by Hasan's actions and that Hasan was a "good American":
Both his parents are American, I want to make sure everyone understands, he was a good American, and we are shocked. We just found out from the news that he was being deployed [to Iraq]. He never even told us. We've known for the last five years that that was probably his worst nightmare. He deals with stories, he would tell us how he hears horrific things, but even before, things from before that was probably affecting him psychologically.
Hasan's cousin related that he had "been making requests since sometime after September 11th" not to be deployed to Iraq, and that Hasan had been trying to leave the military:
He was dealing with harassment from some of his colleagues to the extent where he hired a military attorney to have the issue resolved, pay back the government to get out of the military if that was it, but he was at the end of trying everything to make everybody fair and reasonable and him get out the situation, so I'm really shocked and baffled and if anybody wants to try to suggest that it has something else to do with being afraid of wanting to go to war, that's it.
Hasan's cousin said that he joined the military "right out of high school" and "against his parents' wishes."
Contrary to prior reports, Hasan has "always been Muslim" and is not a recent convert.
Hasan's cousin said "our family is feeling sadness, we feel so much sadness for any family who was hurt."

I'm so tired of the PC, walking on eggshells of the media and government officials. I have a friend on FB who was offended at Pamela's posts--saying they were hateful. Because we all know Islam is a peaceful religion and there are only a handful of extremists. And Christians kill in the name of God too. How long can I maintain the "Thumper Principle" --If you can't say something nice don't say nothin' at all. I struggle with this as a Christian but the ignorance of people is really getting under my skin.

The Military failed these dead and wounded soldiers, they failed them miserably and all in the name our Achilles tendon, the foolish perversion of multiculturalism and being politically correct when it comes to religions. Politicians failed them if they where okay with the Goldstone report, or if they like Obama helped to define any criticism of Islam as a hate crime. There is no doubt in my mind that we are being led by ignorant fools who buy into the myth that Islam is "the religion of peace". I am sick to death of having to be lead by these blind dhimmis that are in our military and our government.

Amazing, one Muslim kills 12 Americans and wounds 31, and you've got CAIR going around portraying Americans as torch and pitchfork-wielding mobs ready to lynch Muslims across the nation. The sad part is that it will probably work, with the MSM and politicos spending the next week chanting en masse, 'Islam is a religion of peace', 'Islam had nothing to do with this', blah, blah, blah.
Ultimately, it will take the real world nightmare of a WMD being used in New York or Washington or Mumbai/Beslan style attack to wake up enough Americans from their PC-Multicultural reveries and dreams. If Britian is any measure of what America is facing, it took 7/7, the Glasgow bombing attempt, the attempt to explode mixed chemicals on planes in 2006, Richard Reid-the Shoe Bomber, attempts at bombing nightclubs, documentaries exposing the hate taught in mosques, and much more for Brits to wake up to the threat Islam poses to free men and women around the world. Even now, too much of Britan fantasizes that they can control the Islamic beast through appeasement. Let's hope America does not share the same fate.

Sorry to seem self-promoting, but I believe in this as a cause. The military, hardened realists as they are, will have to start to be culturist. They have to be leery of muslims in their midst with guns. They may want to profile or stop recruiting those with Islamic sentiments. This policy will immediately be called racist. This means they cannot discuss it openly. If the military used the correct word and called their discrimination culturist, perhaps people would understand. This is a matter of life and death. We need culturist policies now.

I went to bed after hearing a newswoman, middle aged white, chin length bob sorry i cant name her==interviewing a muslim 'chaplain' who said he has reports the jihadist was harrassed by fellow servicemen. The newswoman was saying to him Are you saying the military doesn't do enough to protect muslim servicemen? SICK And previous to this a family member proudly proclaimed there's religious freedom in USA and I couldnt generalize. So I had to go to bed after being chastized by a righteous one who thinks he's 'patriotic' because he defends islam. again SICK. i said its not just a religion. he said tell that to the Supreme Court. However, a relative of a friend was here earlier, really upset and saying the jihadist needs to be executed. You know those loopy 'ribbons' for every cause, how about a particular color for anti jihad. dont even need words so we know who's sane and who isnt

As I've posted before, there is just one way to attain peace at home, i.e., separation from Muslims. The only question is how?
We must take liberal democracy to more Muslim countries, one by one - freedom for women, gays and religious minorities. Who can oppose such a noble aim?
Support our effort to bring freedom to Islamic nations. It is the one hope we have at the moment.

Tragic as this incidence is, the prospect of Islam becoming dominant in any western nation is a catastrophe.
So we are taking the war to "Islamists" (PC language), in the noble certainty that our expenditure of blood and treasure in Iraq and Afghanistan, will bear fruit. We will take casualties for our efforts, in Iraq or Afghanistan, and worse, from Muslims who have been allowed to live in the West, as this incident shows. We will see infuriating demos by Muslims, against soldiers returning home to Britain, after heroic duties in Iraq or Afghanistan, helping Muslims turn to liberal democracy.
But we must persevere to the bitter end.

Our government profiles veterans who served their country and patriots who protest tyranny as threats. A muslim who cheers suicide bombers and sympathizes with terrorists in the War on Terror? Not so much. And the libs out there are all rushing to the side of the muslims, fretting "muslim backlash". How many muslims in America have been slaughtered since 9/11? Muslim backlash my ass, there are 13 dead American heroes and the leftards are all choked up about how muslims might be perceived! The left have their heads so far up their asses they can't see daylight.

I have just seen Geraldo on Fox dribbling a bib full of excuses for this Muslim Assassin, someone in the US please tell me what's the go?
He just stopped short of blaming the victims.
According to Geraldo all is well nothing to see here and gee these Muslims make up a great bunch of Americans.
INTERNMENT + DEPORTATION OF Muslims = A Return to pre Islamic Colonization of the Judeo Christian Western Democracies

The Koran is the ideology of Satan,The Prince of Darkness,Beelzebub, those who follow it's teachings and dictates are a danger in any civilized society,to those who have not been seduced by the evil of Islam.
I have just watched on Fox a woman talking head expert say in response to the host noting that this Hasan shouted out allah as he started to kill people, she replied that "well he had to call out something" in order to negate any connection with Islam.
I bet if they can find evidence he walked past a Catholic Church at some time in his life, that that will be put forward as the reason for his murderous savagery.

There is no spinning this one. CAIR has lost all credibility. ....and Keith Ellison's biggest worry is someone might yank his daughter's headscarf off? Jihad is here in the US, no matter what the Asshat in Chief and the Media says.

We all know followers of Islam have zero loyalty to any country. Their loyalty lies only with Islam and its teachings.

"We urge all Americans to remain calm in reaction to this tragic event and to demonstrate once again what is best about America -- our nation's ability to remain unified even in times of crisis," Awad said. "We urge national political and religious leaders and media professionals to set a tone of calm and unity.
I think CAIR needs to shut up! We'll handle this the way we see fit, not you. CAIR is the reason for this, go to hell CAIR!

I live north of Dallas a bit, not too far from McKinney (WELCOME PAMELA !!) and I love my soldiers who keep me safe, so I'm trying to keep up with this story. The most common theme I can find in the mainstream news is how much violence there is at Ft Hood. See FoxNews site. To their credit, they gave a little background on all the previous shooters, like the parolee from NY. Fights at parties. Can't help but notice we don't know where Spc. Armano Baca is from but know from EVERY single article, past and present his victim was from Wisconsin. There isn't a single mention of the guy who thought he'd blow up a Dallas skyscraper, or the Marines murdered in Arkansas. The spin on this will be so thick it will freeze solid. Then we can all cower at CAIR's threats of law suits!! Oh no!! Save me, please - not LAW SUITS !! NOT SCARY CAIR !!! We're sorry !! Please don't get MAD at us !!
Probably, Hasan will sue. America made him do it.
NEVER thought I'd think America was cowardly.

Conservatives harass people different than themselves until they are driven crazy. Then conservatives feel sorry for themselves. There really isn't a whole lot of reality in your world. Is there?

"Unfortunately, based on past experience, we also urge American Muslims, and those who may be perceived to be Muslim, to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, their families and their religious institutions from possible backlash."
When there is an American backlash, you'll know it. The world will know it.

Ladies and Gentlemen - I give you REALITY !!!
"Conservatives harass people different than themselves until they are driven crazy. Then conservatives feel sorry for themselves. There really isn't a whole lot of reality in your world. Is there?"

Certainly not your kind of reality, praise the merciful God. If this is what you truly believe, you should put your money, and your life, where your mouth is. Sign up and serve your cause, o wise one. Embrace reality, in a real sort of way. Then demand that those in the military and those with families, jobs and some self discipline, bail your "reality" ass out of whatever idiot's paradise you've gotten yourself into - kidnapped by Jihadists? No just reporting how conservatives oppress the Taliban. But that soldier better doubletime it to give his life to rescue the idiot liberal reporter's ass AFTER he was warned not to go there. Gotta give every dead beat in the country a mortgage and pay gay activists enough to get rich and powerful doin' it, and borrow the money from countries who envy our wealth and desire our downfall, all at the same time? Hell, yes - but those who want to pay their bills and raise their kids wind up paying for it. What reality are you referring to? President Oblithering idiot's idea of economics? Foriegn policy? I'd say probably not, I doubt you could define any of them. Your reality means that you can do anything or anybody, in anyway possible with no restraint or consequences. That's your reality, until it doesn't work. Then you scream foul and SAVE ME SAVE ME. You're pathetic.
A recent poll said that conservatives were occasionally disgusted with or by some things. Liberals were almost NEVER EVER disgusted by anything at all. Well, guess what? Idiot.
