SCHOOL DESIGNS Terry, It is a common ploy to get parents "involved in the process" of building new schools. They send the architects out to talk to parents and teachers creating wish lists. They form committees of parents and business partners to come up with what is "needed." Of course they already know what they are going to build and this stuff is just for show. Usually the business partners are in on the scam and they guide the parents toward the "right" choices. It is, however, an opportunity for the public to be heard as long as they don't let themselves get delphied. They should also invite the press to come when tough questions are going to be asked by some wise parents. You can derail their plans with a bit of planning. In most cases your school district doesn't really need a new school--they just need it for the School to Work junk. A good question to ask is, "Could you explain to us how it is that every school district in America just happened to have their schools become old, outdated and worthless all in the same year?" Or, "Could you explain why it is that every school district in America suddenly needed one new high school? Mary McGarr
