It is published by the OSPI, and is dated June 2000. These will be the EALRS eventually to be required in State-run daycare. Remember that Al Gore and others are trying to implement mandatory pre-school. It is the "entering school ready to learn" portion of GOALS 2000. If you believe the document's claim that these baby EALRS will not be used as a screening tool, I have some....pick your scam. I'm not kidding guys...this is the cradle to grave system Marc Tucker slobbered over. Here's an excerpt from the Introduction: "Assumptions reflected in this document - Literacy begins at birth." "For students to be successful at the fourth grade level, there are important benchmarks children need to reach during infancy, toddlerhood, and preschool. The purpose of this document has been to identify characteristics of young children in the areas of verbal communication, reading, and writing which is referred to as 'suggested characteristics.' These suggested characteristics can mark early signs of success on the child's long educational journey." If you want a copy, call 360/586-2263. There is no cost. Terry
