When Bud Scar ran for OSPI in '92, the Eastside Weekly did an expose on Bud.
EW is now defunct, but the Seattle Weekly may have it archived. The article
outlined Tjossem's involvement and the conflicts of interest.


I found the donations in the PDC filings which I have a copy of.  Most
interesting document.  It proves that he who "givith", even to a failed
political campaign, "getith."  Among the winners in the giving to Scar were
a car dealership that got a district contract for drivers ed cars, an
architectural firm (Meng and Co.) that got several contracts for new school
construction, and a woman made principal of a high school six months after
her donations over the protests of the community.


This year, the LWSD named the administration center, built using $4 million
in bonds tagged to construct new schools, after Bud Scar.  More than a few
people noted the name seemed quite appropriate because the building via both
the funding scandal and its location (Redmond Town Center-a shopping mall)
is a true "scar" on the district. Yes, the name fits well. If you ever met
the guy, a former marine with both the attitude and the broken nose to prove
it, Bud Scar is the perfect street fighter in the ed reform wars. His
legacy, in all it vile manifestations, lives on.
