Asians are absolutely the most under-represented group among schoolteachers in the US, with the fewest relative number of principals, superintendents, and role models of any kind, and their parents pay the least attention to racial politics, but guess which group has the highest math test scores?? Ranked by Asian Representation: Asians always worse or as poorly represented as blacks, yet perform as well or better than Whites in every district and state. Here is a rundown of how races compare with students in several cities. 1.00 means parity with whites, -2.00 means 1/2, 2.00 means twice as many as whites. In most cities, Asians are MORE under-represented as staff and administration than blacks. Spokane WA Princip W1.00 B 2.20 H 1.00 A 1.05 N 0.00 Seattle Principal W1.00 B 2.00 ----------------------- Asian Parity --------------------- Spokane WA Elem Tea W1.00 B -1.33 H -1.95 A -1.20 N-1.99 Seattle Teach/Pop W1.00 B -1.06 H -3.86 A -1.54 N-1.39 Boston Teacher/Stu W1.00 B -1.80 H -2.91 A -2.66 N-1.60 SF Principal (A=Ch) W1.00 B -3.0 H -3.0 A -3.1 N 0.00 Seattle Employ W1.00 B -2.47 H -3.72 A -3.74 N-3.74 WA Teacher vs Stu W1.00 B -3.40 H -6.13 A -3.92 N-4.15 CA Teachers W1.00 B -2.70 H -8.58 A -4.13 N-1.88 CA Staff W1.00 B -2.50 H -8.23 A -4.16 N-1.85 Ca Principals W1.00 B -1.72 H -6.20 A -5.25 N-1.67 SF Teacher (A=Chin) W1.00 B -7.3 H-10.20 A -9.10 N-3.20 CA Superintendent W1.00 B-13.4 H-17.2 A-27.5 N-1.80 Got this from my teacher page at http://www.leconsulting.com/arthurhu/index/teacher.htm As for suicide rates http://www.leconsulting.com/arthurhu/index/suicide.htm Suicide Spectrum Worldwide Deaths per 100,000 people, 1985 Suicide Index France 21.30 1.7 Japan 19.60 1.6 Japan 98 17.2 W Germany 18.60 1.5 USA 12.20 1.0 Britain 8.50 -1.43 Relative rates - Higher in Japan, but generally lower among Asian Americans. -------------------------------------------- US Elderly W1.0 A "highest" US/ Japn W1.0 A 1.6 US Teen W1.00 B-1.9 A-1.95 CA State W1.0 B-1.8 H-3.0 A-2.7 O-2.3 SF W1.0 B-2.2 H-12.7 A-3.6 So rates of suicide are higher in Japan, but that may be due more to adults who can't cope with failure which is more acceptable here. However, those Asian American kids have LOWER rates of suicide, in the US, it is the WHITES who have rates of suicide 2 times the rate of black youth (who unfortunate problem of murder by other black youths instead) Dear loop, In a conversation with a friend and "educator" about our sub-par math and general academic scores, I brought up the fact that Japanese children consistently outperform our kids. Her reply was that the Japanese are taught by other Japanese, making the children more willing to learn. She also said that Japanese children have a much higher suicide rate than American kids. She used both these arguments to justify the teaching of multi-culturalism and self-esteem in the classroom. Later on during the conversation she contradicted herself and said they teach multi-culturalism to prepare the children for the global economy. What would be the proper response to her claims about kids being more willing to learn from someone of their own race and the difference in suicide rate between America and Japan? Personally, I never noticed I was being taught by a different race or that my friends and I weren't supposed to get along until society pointed it out for me. I went to a very mixed elementary school where everyone got along no matter what their race. When I go back to my old neighborhood though you can see everyone divided up along racial lines. Please take the time to give me a response. Thank you and God bless. Guillermo, Jr. Bruce Crawford [brucec76@ix.netcom.com] Arthur, Right on! A friend of my daughter is a black kid who scored 1,600 on his PSATs last year. He lives in the 'burbs, and has probably never had a black teacher, other than his parents. The notion one must learn from people of one's own kind is out of the fallacy known as critical race theory. Much has been written on that subject. It is to the understanding of human nature what multiple intelligences is to cognitive psych. BC
